She can Sit!

Last Friday, I tried to let Elyssa sit up unaided, and was pleasantly surprised that she didn't "flop" down when I let go...
Morning-

"Look mummy..... no hands!"

Night- "Yay, I'm so happy to be sitting! "

At first, she could just sit for 2-3 minutes. She's steadier now and I think the longest so far is about 15 minutes. But I still have to be careful and place her right in the middle of the mattress, cos she'll eventually "flop" - and that can be either left, right, front or back!

She seems happy of her new achivement too. Just look at her big smile!

Army Cap

I saw Elyssa playing with her daddy's cap a few days back. I just couldn't resist putting the over-sized cap on her head and started to snap away.....

Shhhh...... I'm on a secret mission with my pacifier.

Looking coy

Come play with me

Big smile for the camera!

First Solids!

Started Elyssa on her first solids last week. I was initially planning to start only after her six month mark but my MIL said that she was ready. I read up and she did exhibit signs of "being ready" such as being able to sit up and hold her head unassisted, doubled her birth weight, showed interest in food etc. etc.

So off I went and bought a tin of Nestle Infant Cereal for her. Her first solids! My heart started beating really fast when I paid for the tin at the checkout counter.

Her very first tin of solids
.
And how did the feeding go? She just loved it! Each time the spoon went near her, she opened her mouth big and quickly swallowed the cereal. Once, when I paused between spoonfuls to talk to hubby, she cried out in protest. Really confirmed my initial suspicion that my princess is indeed a greedy little one. Hmm.... I wonder who she gets that from :)

"Yummy!"

Satisfied Look !

Mooncake Festival

Had a mini mooncake festival celebration at my MIL's place last weekend.

With cousins - Chloe & Charmayne cheh-cheh

My 2 nieces had a good time playing with their paper lanterns and light sparkles. I just couldn't help thinking that by next year, little Elyssa will be able to join in the fun with her cousins. But this year, while her cousins were having a good time, this is what she was doing -

Fast asleep....!!

5 months old

Another month has passed and Elyssa is already 5 months old.

Weight : 8.5 kg

Length : 63.5 cm

Milk Intake : S26. 6 ounces, 5 times a day, every 3 hours. Supplemented by breastmilk in the late evening and at night.

Her Developments to-date:

1. She loves to be on her stomach. Sometimes, when we put her down on the mattress, she'll immediately turn over. Not a good thing when it's during a diaper change or when she just had her milk!

2. She can move backwards when she's on her stomach. She likes to do her "mini push-ups" and each time she does that, she moves a little backwards.

3. She can turn 360 degrees, again when she's on her stomach.

4. Babbles a lot

5. Loves to grab things. And everything goes into her mouth.

Vaccination

"It's nice here at the Dr's place..... I wonder why mummy looks so worried"

Last night, hubby and I finally brought Elyssa for her vaccination- Dtp and Rotavirus. A bit behind schedule since it's supposed to be taken at 3-4 months and she's going to turn 5 months tommorow.

As expected, she was alright with the Rotavirus vaccination which was a milky substance taken orally. It's already the 2nd dosage, and she took the 1st dosage without much coaxing last time. I was quite surprised at her reaction with the Dtp injection though. I held on to her hands (and cringed) when the doctor took out the needle and swiftly injected her thigh. I expected her to cry, but not a sound came from her! She was smiling before the injection, stopped smiling for a while during and right after the injection, but started smiling again when I picked her up from the table. She didn't cry at all. I was so proud of my tough little baby :)

40+ year old babychair

"Daddy says I look like I'm up to no good in this shot, but noo.... I'm innocent as usual"

Here's a photo of Elyssa sitting on a 40+ year old bamboo chair. And who has used this chair before? None other than her own daddy when he was a baby. If only there's a photo of her daddy sitting on the same chair.
.
Brought the chair from MIL's place last night. According to MIL, she bought the chair for hubby's eldest brother last time, and since then her 4 kids and 4 grandkids (plus kids she used to babysit and other kids in the extended family) have used the chair. And while it's not being used a chair, it can be turned around and used as a side-table. Wow, what a useful and long-lasting piece of furniture! It still looks good too.

Baby Chair

"Whatya u looking at ???"
"Nevermind..... I"ll just play with my own toy"

Yipeeee...... Elyssa can finally sit on the babychair!!! I never tried it earlier cos I always thought the chairs were for bigger babies (unless it's those special babychairs). So when we were at Ikano yesterday and the waiter pulled out an Ikea babychair, my immediate response was my usual "no need". But then after a second thought, I decided to just give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised that she could sit comfortably in the babychair! She really seemed to enjoy sitting on the chair all by herself.
.
Was also happy that I finally found baby leggings for her. The only ones I could find last time were expensive ones from Mothercare. The one at Ikano was only about RM13 each. (yeah, cheapo mummy). So, at least I don't have to worry about her being cold when I dress her up in skirts and dresses next time. :)

Ski Hat

Last night, I found a little ski hat with bunny ears that I put away in my cupboard months ago. Tried it on the little princess and I think she looks quite cute in it :)
It's a bit small for her already, so will have to pack it away quite soon. Btw, that's "mah mah's" (MIL) arms that Elyssa is comfortably in. My mum has just gone for her cataract operation, so MIL is here to the rescue this whole month.

Outgrown Clothes

Elyssa has outgrown a lot of her baby clothes. I finally got down to packing them away a few nights ago. *Sigh* before long, tears were rolling down my cheeks. I just couldn't help thinking of the times that she could fit into those teeny weeny t-shirts, and how my little princess has grown so much.
It also made me reflect on all the wishful thinking that I've done -

- I've wished she could talk when I didn't understand why she was crying
- I've wished she could play by herself when I wanted to get some chores done
- I've wished she could walk when I have to bring out her stroller for a quick meal outside
etc etc.

Then I realised that I shouldn't keep looking into the future. After all, the future will eventually come but the past, well once it's gone, it's gone. So I promised myself that I should really appreciate the precious moments of my little princess now, and not do too much wishful thinking.

Love Bite

I have a "love bite" on my shoulder. Not from hubby but from the little princess! I was trying to make her sleep at my MIL's house last weekend. Since there was no "sarong" and it wasn't too convenient to nurse her to sleep, I had to resort to the final way of making her sleep which was to carry her.
So I carried her over my shoulder and as usual she started gumming my shoulder. Only difference this time was that I was wearing a sleeveless top. The sleepier she got, the harder she gummed. I could really feel the strong "suction" but I was surprised when she was done. Didn't expect a baby to be able to leave such a strong mark!
